It's another CHUM April Fool's chart, with every singles entry given a
joke title and artist. For the sake of database integrity, the *actual*
singles and artists have been entered into the ARSA database!
Some of the jokes would have only been comprehensible to Toronto audiences
of the time.
#10 - Nathan Phillips was at this time the mayor of Toronto.
#20 - Grocery chain Loblaw's gave out green stamps, redeemable for prizes.
#26 - Multi-millionaire Toronto businessman E.P. Taylor made his fortune as
a brewer.
#32 - Fred Gardiner, chairman of Metro Toronto, was often at odds with
Toronto councilor (and former mayor) Alan "Lampy" Lamport.
#46 - Punch Imlach was the coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, about to head
into the Stanley Cup finals. It didn't end well -- the Leafs lost all
four games. Contributed by: K.A. Scott (Friday, 2011-10-21) |
