NOTE; This is CHUM's "April Fool" edition of their hit parade chart
dated April 1, 1959 (but actually issued for the chart week of April 6.)
Every entry corresponds to the real chart placing of an actual hit,
but the printed chart subtitutes a joke title and/or artist for
each entry.
For the sake of database integrity, the real, non-joke entries are
listed here. But here are a few crib notes, if you're wanting to
play along with the printed chart:
- (#1) The Board of Broadcast Governors was the (then) newly-created
regulator of Canadian radio and TV, since replaced by the CRTC.
- (#3) Dack's Shoes was a prominent local shoe store.
- (#5) The 1958/59 New York Rangers suffered a dramatic late season
collapse, allowing the Toronto Maple Leafs into the playoffs.
- (#6) Conn Smythe was the owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs; his
son Stafford had actual day-to-day control of the team. The two were
notorious for their heated disagreements, which were widely reported
in the Toronto press.
- (#22) E.P. Taylor was a wealthy industrialist/race-horse owner
(his most notable horse being Northern Dancer).
